From seeing the Northern Lights to climbing the tallest building in the world, these are my best travel Instagrams of 2017!
What. A. Year.
While I thought 2016 was busy, last year was on another level.
In total I caught 33 flights and visited 17 countries (and that’s not including going to places like France three times!)
Safe to say last year was packed full of adventures and escapades. It was also a year of firsts as I went skiing for the first time (and subsequently broke a ski but we won’t talk about that), and I finally saw the Northern Lights too!
It’s funny, when I’m travelling and on the road, I don’t really keep track of things – I’m very much in the moment. It’s only at times like this when I’m planning for the year ahead that I get to reflect on where I’ve been and what I’ve done, so I thought I’d share some of my best travel Instagrams.
Whether you’re looking for inspiration on where to go this year or just like look at pretty pictures, then these are my best travel Instagrams of 2017.
Oh, and make sure you’re following me on Instagram here – @anadventurousworld.
“Awe-inspiring. Exhilarating. Unforgettable. Words will never do a place like Petra justice, and today has been one that I’ll never forget.”
That’s what I said when I first posted this photo last year, and this view still gives me goosebumps. Without a doubt one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to!

Awe-inspiring. Exhilarating. Unforgettable. Words will never do a place like Petra justice, and today has been one that I’ll never forget. Despite seeing countless images of Petra beforehand, nothing could ever come close to walking through the Siq and seeing the Treasury unveil itself from behind the rock for the first time. It was one of those moments that’ll stick with me forever – Petra is a seriously special place and I absolutely loved exploring it today! (📸: @wanderlustchloe)
Ice Climbing, Iceland
Ice climbing. This was my biggest adventure last year and one I actually found really tough. Climbing up a vertical sheet of ice really takes it out of you, I can tell you that, but it was so rewarding too. I really hope to have a few more adventures like that this year!

I think the adrenaline is still pumping here! Today was all about realising dreams. The reason why I came to Iceland is I wanted an adventure, I wanted a challenge, I wanted to do something I’ve never done before. That’s why I wanted to go ice climbing, to really push myself to the limit. Exhilarating. Exhausting. Unforgettable. It was everything I wanted and more. Today really will go down as the day I did something completely different and conquered the ice. (📸: @helenedancer)
Northern Lights, Iceland
Never in my wildest dreams did I think we’d see the Northern Lights on our trip to Iceland. Firstly, we went towards the end of April when it was starting to get very light very early, and secondly I was on a shoot with Lonely Planet and it wasn’t on the agenda. Still, we saw the Northern Lights and it was every bit as special as I thought it would be!
Oh Iceland, you’ve done it again. I never in my wildest dreams thought I’d get to see the Northern Lights on this trip, yet last night they put on the most magnificent display in the night sky. I’ve never seen the Northern Lights before and they were a million times better than I ever imagined. It was such a special moment and one that will live with me forever! Bucket list – ✔️
Went skiing for the first time, broke a ski (which people tell me is actually really difficult), ate more cheese fondues than was healthy or necessary, captured some stunning views of the Matterhorn. My trip to Zermatt was certainly memorable that’s for sure!

Kluane National Park, Canada
Every time I go to Canada I am taken aback by the raw natural beauty of the country, and visiting the Yukon was no different. While I was travelling around the Yukon, the one place all the locals raved about was Kluane National Park – with views like this it’s easy to see why.

This has been such an amazing week full of awesome adventures, beautiful landscapes and kind-hearted people who have welcomed us into the Yukon with open arms. From canoeing down the Yukon River to hiking along the Sam McGee trail to taking a scenic flight over the glaciers and ice fields of Kluane National Park, we’ve really packed in so much since we’ve been here. We were so excited to explore this part of Canada and it has completely surpassed all expectations! For us it’s all about the Yukon now! #ExploreCanada
“Havana, ooh na-na, half of my heart is in Havana, is in Havana…” Like everyone else who’s wandered around Old Havana and watched the sunset from the Malecon with a mojito in one hand and their camera in the other, I too fell under Havana’s spell. There are few places with the charm of Havana and I just loved taking photos of all the classic cars driving around!

Another day in Havana, another shot of a classic car! Yesterday I explored a lot more of the city like the Plaza de la Revolucion where Fidel Castro held his revolutionary rallies to millions, all the way along the Malecon to Playa da Jamanitas, a beach just on the outskirts of the hustle and bustle of the city centre. It doesn’t matter where you turn here though, there’s always something to take a photo of! Saying that, tomorrow I promise I’ll post a pic that’s not of a car! #KLMtop10
Lim Fjord, Croatia
For our big holiday this year, Chloe and I went on a road trip from Italy, down through Slovenia and into Italy, stopping off at cute little towns and villages along the way. With beautiful weather and stunning scenery, it was so nice doing nothing for a few days apart from eat and drink (which we did in abundance) – that’s what holidays are all about!

31 years. It took me 31 years before finally visiting Paris. That’s pretty shocking from a travel blogger who’s clocked up more than 75 countries! Anyway, obviously I loved the place. Went to the Eiffel Tower, stood in the shadows of the Louvre, drank loads of wine, learned all about cheese – basically did all the French things!

Last year my biggest project with Lonely Planet took me to Turkey where we shot a three-part mini-series together all about adventure, the culture and the cuisine. Turkey is one of those countries that has so much to offer and it was great getting to see all of this for myself. If you want a taste for the country then make sure you watch all three videos!
Whoop whoop! Tomorrow I’m heading back to Turkey for the next eight days on another big shoot with @lonelyplanet! We’ve got an action packed schedule of kayaking over the sunken ruins of Kekova, sailing around the beautiful Turkish coast in a gulet boat, before then flying up to Istanbul to try my hand at Ottoman marbelling and to eat my way through the city on a culinary tour. This is going to be such an awesome shoot with the LP team so make sure you follow along to see everything we get up to while in Turkey! Hopefully I’ll be posting some more pics like this one from the last time I was in Istanbul!
Dubai is one of those places that you either love or hate, but you can’t help but marvel at the city. The one place that I was dying to see while I was there was the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. The views from the 148th floor really were something else, I can tell you that! Just stunning.

Dubai, you’ve been an absolute blast. From watching sunset on our desert safari to playing around in the snow at Ski Dubai to looking down on the world below from the dizzying heights of the Burj Khalifa, it’s been an amazing six days exploring this city in the desert with @teletextholidays. Dubai is such an interesting city, it really is, and I can’t wait to show the blogs and videos from this one! #TeletextDoesDubai (📸: @wanderlustchloe)
My hometown! Last year I got to explore more of London than ever before with projects for the Telegraph and Visit London. My favourite weekend was the #LoveLondonWeekend where I managed to tick off a few things that I’ve wanted to do for ages including heading to the top of the Shard for the best views of the city!
London is open! This weekend I’ve been exploring my favourite city in the world for the #LoveLondonWeekend! It’s an event where some of the world’s biggest and best influencers have taken over the city (check out the hashtag for some incredible photos). This shot was from the opening party at the @shardview and it’s without a doubt one of the best views in London!
Crane Beach, Barbados
Paradise can be found in Barbados! In an island renowned for it’s crystal clear waters and beautiful beaches, it’s pretty difficult picking a favourite, but this view form the Crane Hotel takes some beating. And yes, the water really is that colour! Also, rum. What more needs to be said!

Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany
It’s not Christmas unless you visit some German markets in the snow, is it? My last trip of 2017 saw me go on a massive road trip from France, through the Black Forest to Rothenburg, one of the most Christmasy places I’ve ever visited! And yes, it was a very white Christmas there!

This morning I pulled back the curtains and was greeted with this view! So day three of our @mazda_uk road trip started in the picturesque town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber where I had more than my daily allowance of bratwurst and gluhwien at the Christmas markets (I really couldn’t stop myself) before then driving down to our final stop of Munich. This road trip had been so much fun and I’m definitely in the Christmas spirit now! 🚘☃️🎄 #DriveTogether
My most luxurious trip of 2017 was to the Heritage le Telfair hotel in Mauritius. Not only did I get to laze by the pool and soak up the sun, but I also got to explore a lot of the island too – put it this way, Mauritius isn’t just for couples on their honeymoon that’s for sure!

I’ve literally just landed back home in London and obviously it’s raining which makes me miss these views even more! I have a feeling I’m going to be day dreaming of this beach at @heritageresorts a lot over the next week but what an incredible trip it’s been! Mauritius, you’ve been brilliant. From the stunning beaches to delicious cuisine to an amazing hotel I’ve loved every second here. Until next time!
The Yukon, Canada
Want to guess when this photo was taken? On the stroke of midnight. The Yukon in northern Canada barely gets dark during the summer and it is one of the few places where you can experience the midnight sun, something everyone should do at least once in their life – I mean, just look at it!
Last night we went over to some of Brianna’s family friends who have been living just outside Whitehorse in the Yukon for the past 40 years, 14 of which were spent in a tiny log cabin in the woods completely off the grid. It was so nice hear all about this part of Canada and why they settled down here. At 11:30pm we went for a little walk through the woods to this lookout point and we were treated to this spectacular sunset. There’s a reason why they call it the midnight sun up here and it was such a magical moment to share it with new friends! #ExploreCanada
