The Best Travel Instagrams of 2017

From seeing the Northern Lights to climbing the tallest building in the world, these are my best travel Instagrams of 2017!

What. A. Year.

While I thought 2016 was busy, last year was on another level.

In total I caught 33 flights and visited 17 countries (and that’s not including going to places like France three times!)

Safe to say last year was packed full of adventures and escapades. It was also a year of firsts as I went skiing for the first time (and subsequently broke a ski but we won’t talk about that), and I finally saw the Northern Lights too!

It’s funny, when I’m travelling and on the road, I don’t really keep track of things – I’m very much in the moment. It’s only at times like this when I’m planning for the year ahead that I get to reflect on where I’ve been and what I’ve done, so I thought I’d share some of my best travel Instagrams.

Whether you’re looking for inspiration on where to go this year or just like look at pretty pictures, then these are my best travel Instagrams of 2017.

Oh, and make sure you’re following me on Instagram here – @anadventurousworld.

Petra, Jordan

Awe-inspiring. Exhilarating. Unforgettable. Words will never do a place like Petra justice, and today has been one that I’ll never forget.”

That’s what I said when I first posted this photo last year, and this view still gives me goosebumps. Without a doubt one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to!

Ice Climbing, Iceland

Ice climbing. This was my biggest adventure last year and one I actually found really tough. Climbing up a vertical sheet of ice really takes it out of you, I can tell you that, but it was so rewarding too. I really hope to have a few more adventures like that this year!

Northern Lights, Iceland

Never in my wildest dreams did I think we’d see the Northern Lights on our trip to Iceland. Firstly, we went towards the end of April when it was starting to get very light very early, and secondly I was on a shoot with Lonely Planet and it wasn’t on the agenda. Still, we saw the Northern Lights and it was every bit as special as I thought it would be!

Zermatt, Switzerland

Went skiing for the first time, broke a ski (which people tell me is actually really difficult), ate more cheese fondues than was healthy or necessary, captured some stunning views of the Matterhorn. My trip to Zermatt was certainly memorable that’s for sure!

Kluane National Park, Canada

Every time I go to Canada I am taken aback by the raw natural beauty of the country, and visiting the Yukon was no different. While I was travelling around the Yukon, the one place all the locals raved about was Kluane National Park – with views like this it’s easy to see why.

Havana, Cuba

“Havana, ooh na-na, half of my heart is in Havana, is in Havana…” Like everyone else who’s wandered around Old Havana and watched the sunset from the Malecon with a mojito in one hand and their camera in the other, I too fell under Havana’s spell. There are few places with the charm of Havana and I just loved taking photos of all the classic cars driving around!

Lim Fjord, Croatia

For our big holiday this year, Chloe and I went on a road trip from Italy, down through Slovenia and into Italy, stopping off at cute little towns and villages along the way. With beautiful weather and stunning scenery, it was so nice doing nothing for a few days apart from eat and drink (which we did in abundance) – that’s what holidays are all about!

Paris, France

31 years. It took me 31 years before finally visiting Paris. That’s pretty shocking from a travel blogger who’s clocked up more than 75 countries! Anyway, obviously I loved the place. Went to the Eiffel Tower, stood in the shadows of the Louvre, drank loads of wine, learned all about cheese – basically did all the French things!

Istanbul, Turkey

Last year my biggest project with Lonely Planet took me to Turkey where we shot a three-part mini-series together all about adventure, the culture and the cuisine. Turkey is one of those countries that has so much to offer and it was great getting to see all of this for myself. If you want a taste for the country then make sure you watch all three videos!

Dubai, UAE

Dubai is one of those places that you either love or hate, but you can’t help but marvel at the city. The one place that I was dying to see while I was there was the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. The views from the 148th floor really were something else, I can tell you that! Just stunning.

London, UK

My hometown! Last year I got to explore more of London than ever before with projects for the Telegraph and Visit London. My favourite weekend was the #LoveLondonWeekend where I managed to tick off a few things that I’ve wanted to do for ages including heading to the top of the Shard for the best views of the city!

Crane Beach, Barbados

Paradise can be found in Barbados! In an island renowned for it’s crystal clear waters and beautiful beaches, it’s pretty difficult picking a favourite, but this view form the Crane Hotel takes some beating. And yes, the water really is that colour! Also, rum. What more needs to be said!

Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany

It’s not Christmas unless you visit some German markets in the snow, is it? My last trip of 2017 saw me go on a massive road trip from France, through the Black Forest to Rothenburg, one of the most Christmasy places I’ve ever visited! And yes, it was a very white Christmas there!

Mauritius

My most luxurious trip of 2017 was to the Heritage le Telfair hotel in Mauritius. Not only did I get to laze by the pool and soak up the sun, but I also got to explore a lot of the island too – put it this way, Mauritius isn’t just for couples on their honeymoon that’s for sure!

The Yukon, Canada

Want to guess when this photo was taken? On the stroke of midnight. The Yukon in northern Canada barely gets dark during the summer and it is one of the few places where you can experience the midnight sun, something everyone should do at least once in their life – I mean, just look at it!
