Home of Oktoberfest, historic European architecture, and plenty of amazing restaurants and bars, Munich in Germany is a super popular city break destination that’s only getting more and more popular at the moment.

Obviously when I’m exploring the city, I like finding the coolest hotels in Munich to have the best experience possible. These are the ones with amazing architecture, quirky designs, or very vibey bars.

From the high-end luxury of Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski München to the cool charm of WanderLocke, there are so many beautiful boutique Munich hotels to choose from.

Munich is such an amazing place to visit

It’s worth mentioning that if you want to book your stay during the ever-popular Oktoberfest period, I’d recommend booking your hotel with at least 4-6 months’ notice.

This is one of the biggest events of the year, so it does get booked up really early and the room rates surge massively. If you’re not bothered about beer and Bavaria I’d steer clear of this time of year.

So, with that in mind, let’s dive in and discover the coolest hotels in Munich, Germany.

If you’re looking at visiting the capital of Germany, then you can check out my guide to Berlin. I also have the coolest hotels in Berlin for you too!

Munich is a mixture of old vs new around the city

Altstadt: Directly translates as the Old Town, and is home to all the historical elements of Munich, including Marienplatz and the Hofgarten. It’s also the heart of culture and shopping in Munich, so it’s great for first-timers to the city.

Glockenbach: If you want to be in the heart of the nightlife district, then book a stay in the Glockenback neighbourhood. By day, you can get some of the best coffee in the city and by night you can dance the night away in the LGBT+ bars of Müllerstraße.

Haidhausen: If you want a little slice of European bliss, check out the “French Quarter”, known for its cafes and riverfront walks. It’s a relaxed but social part of the city that offers the perfect blend of activities.

Maxvorstadt: Home to the three Pinakotheks – the city’s famous art museums, and two different universities, this area is a cultural haven in the heart of Munich and perfect for travellers who love galleries and museums.

Schwabing: Located near the beautiful English Garden, this neighbourhood is a green oasis with tons of great restaurants, bars, and cafes to while away the day, with a distinctly relaxed vibe.
